2-New JMB Held, IEDs, Bomb-Making Materials Seized

The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two members of the new JMB with powerful IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and a large quantity of bomb-making equipment.

The arrestees were identified as Abdullah Al Mamun alias David Killer (a military wing member of the new JMB) and Md Kausar Hossain alias Major Osama, reports BSS.

Additional Commissioner and Chief of the CTTC Md Asaduzzaman disclosed the information at a press conference held at DMP Media Center today.

He said a powerful bomb was recovered from a plastic bag in front of the traffic police box in Signboard area of Siddhirganj in Narayanganj on May 17.

“After recovering the bomb the CTTC unit starting investigation into the matter and arrested Abdullah Al Mamun alias David Killer along with a motorcycle from Jatrabari area on July 11,” Asaduzzaman added.

He said the seized motorcycle was used to transport a bomb placed in a traffic police box in  Signboard area of Narayanganj district.

The CTTC chief said that based on the information of the arrested Mamun, three powerful IEDs (improvised explosive devices) were recovered from the militant hideout in Noagaon area of Araihazar police station in Narayanganj.

Besides, 300 grams of red explosive powder, six cans of butane gas, one set of remote control device, two packets of small size bearing ball, 500 Christmas bulbs, one roll of two inch white cartoon tape and one motorcycle were seized during the operation, he said.

Asaduzzaman said the CTTC's bomb disposal unit later defused three bombs, adding, “The recovered motorcycle was used in the organizational work of the new JMB.”

He said Md Kauser Hossain alias Major Osama, a fugitive accused in a case of Pallabi police station, was arrested from Keraniganj area on July 11.

The arrested Kausar Hossain is a trainer in the military wing of the new JMB and a key bomb maker.

On the basis of his information, another militant hideout in Kazipara area under Bandar Police Station was raided and some 11-inch long bomb making GI pipe, two grenade-making GI boxes, four remote controls and two jihadi books and some explosives were recovered from there.

The CTTC chief further said that the arrested Kausar was serving as the trainer of the military wing of the new JMB.

“He also trained online and offline with other members of the organization to make bombs. Kausar was in regular contact with Mahadi Hasan alias Abu Abbas Al Bangali, the Amir of the new JMB in Bangladesh,” he said.

The CTTC produced arrested new JMB members to a court seeking a 10-day remand, the police official said.
