In a case
filed over the deadly fire event at its food processing factory in Rupganj, a
Narayanganj court has ordered the chairman of Sajeeb Group and five people to
jail, denying their bail pleas.
Senior
Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khatun granted bail to two other defendants on
Wednesday. They are the owner's sons, Sajeeb Group directors Tawsib Ibrahim,
33, and Tanjim Ibrahim, 21.
The six who
were sent to jail are Sajeeb Group Chairman and Managing Director Md Abul
Hashem, 70; his two sons Deputy Managing Director Hasib Bin Hashem, 39; and
Director Tarek Ibrahim, 35; Sajeeb Group CEO Shahan Shah Azad, 43; Hashem Foods
Deputy General Manager Mamunur Rashid, 53; and Sajeeb Group Sub-Station Manager
(Admin) Md Salahuddin, 30.
They were
brought before the court on Thursday after attending their four-day remand.
On July 10,
they were apprehended by police on allegations of murder and attempted murder.
Inspector Nazimuddin Mozumder, the in-charge of the Bhulta police outpost,
began the investigation.
On Thursday
evening, at least 49 workers -- trapped on the third floor with its only exit
locked -- died when the massive fire engulfed the factory. Three others
succumbed to injuries they sustained after jumping off the six-storey building.
Over 50 others were injured in the incident that shook the world.
