In a case filed over the deadly fire event at its food processing factory in Rupganj, a Narayanganj court has ordered the chairman of Sajeeb Group and five people to jail, denying their bail pleas.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khatun granted bail to two other defendants on Wednesday. They are the owner's sons, Sajeeb Group directors Tawsib Ibrahim, 33, and Tanjim Ibrahim, 21.

The six who were sent to jail are Sajeeb Group Chairman and Managing Director Md Abul Hashem, 70; his two sons Deputy Managing Director Hasib Bin Hashem, 39; and Director Tarek Ibrahim, 35; Sajeeb Group CEO Shahan Shah Azad, 43; Hashem Foods Deputy General Manager Mamunur Rashid, 53; and Sajeeb Group Sub-Station Manager (Admin) Md Salahuddin, 30.

They were brought before the court on Thursday after attending their four-day remand.

On July 10, they were apprehended by police on allegations of murder and attempted murder. Inspector Nazimuddin Mozumder, the in-charge of the Bhulta police outpost, began the investigation.

On Thursday evening, at least 49 workers -- trapped on the third floor with its only exit locked -- died when the massive fire engulfed the factory. Three others succumbed to injuries they sustained after jumping off the six-storey building. Over 50 others were injured in the incident that shook the world.
