Foreign Min Urges Uzbek President to Open Mission in Dhaka

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has urged the Uzbekistan President to open his country’s mission in Bangladesh to bring Dhaka-Tashkent bilateral and interregional relations to a new height.

He made the request while calling on Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the frame of International Conference on “Central and South Asia: Regional connectivity. Challenges and opportunities” on Friday in Tashkent, a foreign ministry press release said today.

After making the request, Uzbekistan foreign minister, who was present during the meeting, directed his colleagues to start necessary steps for opening Uzbekistan Embassy in Dhaka, said the release, reports BSS.

The foreign minister also noted importance of resumption of direct passenger flights between Dhaka and Tashkent while Mirziyoyev assured that his government would consider the issue.

During the meeting, he conveyed greetings and best wishes to the President of Uzbekistan on behalf of President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Dr Momen handed over an invitation letter to Mirziyoyev from Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid to pay an official visit to Dhaka preferably in December this year.

The Uzbekistan President happily accepted the invitation and expressed thanks and gratitude to the Bangladesh President and said that he would check his agenda for December 2021 and try to visit as soon possible.

Dr. Momen appreciated the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to strengthen regional connectivity.

They exchanged views on topical issues of the international and regional agenda and prospects for expanding multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh foreign minister laid emphasis on further expansion of practical interaction and promotion of new cooperation projects of the two countries.

He also stated the importance of further deepening economic cooperation between Central Asia and South Asia which has historically and closely linked to the region in economic, social, cultural and civilizational dimensions.

The foreign minister shared with the Uzbekistan President about youth activities of Bangladesh as they are directed to increase ‘Youth Resilience’ to violent extremism and antidemocratic activities.
