Japan to Find Rohingya Solution with Myanmar: Envoy

Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Naoki Ito today said his government will try to find a long-lasting solution to Rohingya crisis with Myanmar considering the issue is related to future stability of the entire region.

He was delivering the keynote paper at a virtual dialogue titled "Bangladesh-Japan Relations: Prognosis for the Future" organized by Cosmos Foundation this evening, reports BSS.

The ambassador said that Japan would try its level best to create an enabling environment for the early repatriation of Rohingyas and will continue to raise the issue with the Myanmar side whenever appropriate.

He said humanitarian assistance and humanitarian crises are very much part of Japan government's vision when they talk about stability and peace of the region.

The envoy said it is also important to keep the international community engaged both at Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char.

Former diplomat Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury chaired the discussion while Cosmos Foundation Chairman Enayetullah Khan delivered the welcome speech.

Special Envoy of Climate Vulnerable Forum Md Abul Kalam Azad, JICA's Chief Representative in Dhaka Hayakawa Yuho, former Bangladesh bank governor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed and Professor of University of the Sacred Heart, Tokyo Prof Masaaki Ohashi, Dean, Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Tokyo Prof Takahara Akio and Ambassador (retd) Tariq A Karim spoke as the panel of discussants.
