Controversial businesswoman Helena Jahangir, who was expelled from the Awami League, has been remanded for three days in a case filed under the Digital Security Act with the Gulshan Police Station. Meanwhile, She started to confess within a day and gave some sensational and significant information.

The controversial businesswoman first befriended important people in the state and then blackmailed them. It is learned that she used to collect money from the victims after that.

At noon on Saturday (July 31), Khandaker al-Moin, commander of the RAB's law and media branch, told reporters at the RAB headquarters that he had received information that they (important people in the state) had been blackmailed. The matter is being investigated.

The RAB official said Helena did not stop for a specific person. She is constantly acquainted with different people. She took pictures with different important people at different times and spread them through social media for the purpose. She has made negative remarks about important people in the state, which has put them in an embarrassing position. An embarrassing situation has also been created among the people.

"If our superiors think the case will be investigated by the RAB, we will apply through the appropriate process," al-Moin said. However, it depends on the decision of the higher authority.

He added that Helena Jahangir's husband had been working in a garment factory since 1990. He later started a business in partnership with others at different times and has owned five companies so far. We have learned that in the last two years, Helena used to collect different amounts of money from different people for giving jobs in different media and television. The amount of vouchers received from home and office is still being reviewed. We have learned that many staffs of Jayajatra Television have also been involved in extortion using its ID cards.

Moin added that Helena told us she has 15 to 16 flats. She is also involved with several NGO foundations. At various times, she used the money collected through extortion or blackmail for the benefit of the foundation. The locals gave her the title of Pallimata as she distributed relief in Sunamganj. She has brought a lot of money from expatriates in the name of the foundation. Besides, Helena could not give us any real information about the number of flats or cars during the interrogation.

Helena Jahangir lost her post in the Awami League's women's sub-committee after a controversy erupted over an organization called the ‘Awami Chakrijibi League’. After that, RAB raided her house for about four hours. She was arrested at the end of the drive. The raids seized foreign liquor, illegal walkie-talkie sets, casino equipment and deer hides from her residence.
