The Dhaka
Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Detective Branch will investigate the case
filed against businesswoman Helena Jahangir for spreading propaganda on social
media.
The case was
being investigated by Gulshan police.
On Friday, the
accused was placed on a three-day remand following a raid on her Gulshan home
on Thursday night. On September 12, the court ordered the police to provide a
report on the matter.
Four further
cases were filed against her in addition to the DSA case.
On Sunday, the
police revealed that she had been detained in two other cases, with Gulshan
police station over the confiscation of alcohol from her home and with Pallabi
police for illegally operating Joyjatra IPTV.
RAB raided
Helena's house for four hours on Thursday night, recovering wine,
walkie-talkies, gaming equipment, and deerskin. The offices of Joyjatra IPTV
and Joyjatra Foundation were raided by RAB on Friday.
RAB claimed
she was arrested on suspicion of seeking to slander major state institutions
and individuals by using digital channels to distribute lies, misinformation,
and misleading information.
Helena is the
chairperson of Joyjatra IPTV and a director of the Federation of Bangladesh
Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI).
Helana was
expelled from the Awami League's subcommittee on women's affairs on July 25 for
her association with the "Bangladesh Awami Chakrijibi League," a
non-affiliated group.
She was also
demoted from the Awami League's Comilla district unit's adviser position.
