A case has been filed under the Digital
Security Act against a Dhaka University professor for hurting religious
sentiment on Facebook.
According to Officer-in-Charge of the
police station Mahfuzul Haque Bhuiyan, General Secretary of Bangladesh Hindu
Juba Parishad Amit Bhowmik filed a case against Sheikh Hafizur Rahman,
professor of Law department, with Shahbagh Police Station yesterday.
Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, according to the
case statement, posted a defamatory post on social media on July 22 that went
viral.
The statement said, "Hafizur Rahman
has purposely hurt religious sentiments through the post, causing communal
unity to be harmed and religious extremism to be created."
However, Professor Hafizur Rahman said he apologised for his statement on Facebook and deleted the post.
