A case has been filed under the Digital Security Act against a Dhaka University professor for hurting religious sentiment on Facebook.

According to Officer-in-Charge of the police station Mahfuzul Haque Bhuiyan, General Secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Juba Parishad Amit Bhowmik filed a case against Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, professor of Law department, with Shahbagh Police Station yesterday.

Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, according to the case statement, posted a defamatory post on social media on July 22 that went viral.

The statement said, "Hafizur Rahman has purposely hurt religious sentiments through the post, causing communal unity to be harmed and religious extremism to be created."

However, Professor Hafizur Rahman said he apologised for his statement on Facebook and deleted the post.
