Restrictions on
international flights were imposed from April 14 as corona infections increased
in the country. At that time flights with several countries including India
were stopped. Then those who went to India for medical treatment, education,
emergency, have to return by land.
However, after a long
hiatus, Bangladesh wants to resume air communication with India. Civil Aviation
Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) has sent a letter to India's Civil Aviation to
resume flights.
Earlier on Wednesday, a
virtual meeting was held between the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry
of Civil Aviation and Tourism, the Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh and the
Ministry of Health on resuming flights with India. The meeting discussed the
resumption of flights.
The terms of the two
countries' agreement to operate flights under the Air Bubble Agreement were
discussed. With the consent of both the countries, flights under Air Bubble may
resume from August 11.
CAAB Chairman Air Vice
Marshal Md Mofidur Rahman said, ‘A letter has been sent to the Director General
of Civil Aviation of India. There is an air bubble agreement between the two
countries, through which the issue of resumption of flights is under
discussion.
Bangladesh Biman Airlines,
NovoAir and US Bangla Airlines operate flights to India. On the other hand,
India's Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet, Vistara and GoAir operate flights to
Bangladesh. In 2019, India issued visas to 16 lakh Bangladeshis. In 2020, India
issued about three and a half lakh visas.
