Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said that some Bangladeshis have left their homes
to join the Taliban insurgents in their fight to retake control of Afghanistan.
According to the Commissioner,
the extreme Islamist group is taking advantage of digital platforms to recruit
militants to combat government forces there.
"The world is
cyber-reliant now. Using this medium, the militants are carrying out all kinds
of activities and recruiting members," he said after visiting the
Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi's Road No. 32 ahead of National
Mourning Day.
According to DMP Commissioner,
some people are trying to reach Afghanistan on foot to fulfill the Taliban's
call, while others have been arrested in India.
As Bangladesh prepares to
commemorate the death of its founding father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman, Shafiqul cautioned that militants would exploit August 15 to draw
attention to their cause.
