Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has
said that the mass vaccination campaign is not being resumed as there is not
enough coronavirus vaccine. However, as soon as enough vaccines are available, mass
vaccination activities will resume again.
The minister made the remarks after a function at the
BCPS auditorium in Mohakhali on Sunday (August 15).
"We are going to sign an agreement with China to
get vaccine," he said. “An agreement on joint vaccine production is
expected to be completed next week. Our vaccination agreement with Russia has
been completed. We will get another 23 million vaccines from India.”
We have received 54 lakh vaccines this week," the
minister said. Another 5 million vaccines will arrive in the last week of this
month. In the meantime, our normal vaccination activities will continue.
Regarding the coronavirus infection, Zahid Maleque said
that the infection rate in the country has started decreasing. Even in the last
month, our infection situation was much worse. The infection rate rose to 32
percent. Now it has come down to 20 percent. However, we are not satisfied with
the reduction in infections and deaths, we want an infection rate not high than 5 percent.
