About 20 maund Aus paddy can be produced from one bigha of land.

Farmer Golam Kibria of Soundordigi village said he has cultivated BREE-82 variety on three bighas of land and got 50 maund of paddy.

Per maund Aus paddy is being sold at Taka 550 to 600 in the local hat.

“I have earned money Taka 25 thousands after meeting all expenditure. I have got an extra income of Taka 6 thousands by selling Aus straw,” he also said.

Deputy Director of DAE Md. Mizanur Rahman told BSS that 500 hectares of land have been brought under Aus cultivation this year with the production target of 2800 metric tons of paddy.

DAE supplied Aus seeds, fertilizers and gave technology support to farmers at free of cost.

Aus cultivation has been increasing in the district day by day as its cultivation is lucrative while farmers are showing keen interest to cultivate Aus paddy, Rahman said.
