A Cox’s Bazar court on Monday started recording statements of witnesses in a case filed over the murder of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, reports media.

Judge Md Ismail of Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judges Court began the legal procedure through recording deposition of Sinha's elder sister and plaintiff of the case Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous in the morning, said Public Prosecutor Faridul Alam.

He said 15 of the 83 witnesses have been summoned to testify in the court between August 23 and 25.

Meanwhile, police produced 15 accused in the case from Cox's Bazar jail amid tight security.

Earlier, the court set July 26, 27 and 28 for recording deposition of witnesses in the case, but due to the Covid-induced lockdown the date was deferred until August 23.

On June 27, a Cox’s Bazar court framed charges against 15 accused, including former officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station Pradeep Kumar Das, in the murder case.

Sinha was killed in police firing at the Shamlapur police check-post in Teknaf on July 31 last year.

Sharmin filed the case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5.
