The
High Court has ruled that no teacher of a school, college or madrasa can be
suspended for more than six months. The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur
Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the verdict on Thursday
(September 9).
In
the verdict, the court said that if a teacher is dismissed for more than this
period, the order will be considered null and void. In other words, if the
period of temporary dismissal exceeds 6 months, he will be automatically reinstated,
the lawyers said.
The
verdict was handed down in the wake of a writ petition filed by Magura school
teacher Badshah Miah, who has been suspended for the last 14 years.
