UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka Mia Seppo said the UN would co-operate in the election process if Bangladesh
wanted.
She was responding to a question at a ' DCAB
Talk' event at the Foreign Service Academy on Sunday (September 19).
She also spoke about the much-discussed
Digital Security Act at the event organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents
Association, Bangladesh, or DCAB. Mia Seppo said the UN was in talks with the
law ministry to review the law and stop its abuse.
Regarding the Rohingya crisis, she said the
Rohingya crisis is not only humanitarian but also political. It has become
difficult to keep international attention on the Rohingya issue amidst the
Afghanistan crisis, she added.
The UN Resident Coordinator further said
that the proposal made by the World Bank to Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue
has been misunderstood. There is no political solution to the Rohingya crisis
as members of the UN Security Council cannot agree with each other.
Regarding the opening of educational institutions in Bangladesh at this time, she said, "We welcome the government to open educational institutions." Through this, marginal students will be able to study.
