BTRC Shuts 59 Unregistered IPTVs

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has shut 59 unregistered Internet Protocol televisions (IPTVs).

In a press release, BTRC confirmed the matter on Sunday (September 19).

Buying domain, some traders are running IPTVs through Facebook or Youtube illegally. Such broadcasting without permission is immoral and a violation of the Telecommunications Act, according to the press release.

Approved Internet Service Provider (ISP) operators from BTRC will be able to broadcasts of satellite TV channels through the internet after getting approval from the Ministry of Information only. However, for the broadcast of each channel or program, or content, the necessary contract/approval/clearance must be obtained from the concerned provider.
