Bashundhara Group Managing
Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir has not been granted anticipatory bail by the
High Court in a case filed against him for allegedly raping and killing college
student Mosarat Jahan Munia in the capital's Gulshan.
The High Court bench
comprising Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar passed the
order on Wednesday (September 29th).
The HC bench, however,
granted six weeks' anticipatory bail to Sabrina Sayem, Anvir's wife, in the
case as there is no specific allegation against her, AAG Mizanur Rahman said.
Sabrina has been asked to
surrender to the trial court concerned on expiry of her bail period in the
case.
The HC bench came up with
the order after holding hearing on the petition filed by Sayem Sobhan Anvir and
his wife Sabrina Sayem seeking anticipatory bail in the case.
Anvir and his wife appeared
before the HC bench during hearing of the bail petition
Lawyer Yusuf Hossain Humayun
placed arguments for the accused petitioners during hearing on the matter.
On April 26, police
recovered the body of the 21-year-old college student hanging from ceiling fan
of her bedroom in a Gulshan flat.
On September 6, victim's
elder sister filed the case with a Dhaka court against Anvir over the rape and
murder of the college student.
Chairman of Bashundhara
Group Ahmed Akbar Sobhan alias Shah Alam and six others were also made accused
in the case on charge of abetting the crime.
The six other accused are: Shah Alam's wife Afroza Begum, Anvir's wife Sabrina Sayem, model Faria Mahbub Piyasha, Saifa Rahman Mim, the flat's landlord Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon and his wife Sharmim Akhter.
