BTRC is in the process of disconnecting fake handsets with fake IMEIs and illegal handsets connected to mobile networks.

From October 1, all types of illegal mobile phone sets will be turned off automatically by sending an SMS to the customer.

Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder said this on Thursday.

He said that no illegal mobile set will be allowed from tomorrow, October 1. The message will be sent automatically as soon as the SIM is inserted in the set. If the set is invalid the warning message will come off at any time. Besides, if there are valid documents, registration will be given with them. If there are no valid documents or if the set is not valid, it will become active.

The local company Synesis IT signed an agreement with BTRC last December to stop illegal mobile sets and register legal sets. According to the agreement, Synesis will have to introduce the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system within 120 working days.

The NEIR system was launched on July 1. BTRC launched the system experimentally.

At that time, it was said that by June 30, all mobile phone sets on the mobile phone operator's network will be automatically registered in the NEIR system. To launch the new sets from July 1, you need to register and launch.
