Qcoom CEO Remanded in DSA Case || Photo: Collected
A court today placed e-commerce
platform Qcoom owner and chief executive officer (CEO) Ripon Miah on two-day
remand in a case lodged under Digital Security Act (DSA) for embezzling money
through online fraudulence.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate
Asheq Imam passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded
to place him on 10-day remand in the case lodged with Paltan Police Station.
A customer of Qcoom filed the
case and detective branch (DB) of police arrested Ripon from Motijheel area on
October 3. Ripon in the primary interrogation confessed of not delivering goods
of around Taka 250 crore in spite of taking the money in advance.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police
additional commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter at a press briefing earlier today said
because of the covid restrictions imposed by the government, people got
attracted towards online shopping and different e-commerce platforms like Qcoom
used this in their favor.
"They declared different
offers and discounts, luring unsuspecting customers to pay huge money in
advance to get products at comparatively low price," he said.
