The United Nations has joined in providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas in Bhasanchar. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Bangladesh government in this regard. As a result, Bhasanchar in Noakhali obtained international recognition as a safe haven for Rohingyas.

As a result of this agreement, the United Nations will assist the government in humanitarian activities including food and nutrition, clean water, sanitation and medical treatment in Bhasanchar.

The United Nations has signed an MoU with the Bangladesh government to expand humanitarian activities for the Rohingya in Bhasanchar on Saturday (October 9). Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management Md Mohsin and UNHCR Representative Jonas Van Dek Kluw signed the MoU this morning at the Ministry of Disaster Management.

Although the international development agencies, including the United Nations, initially objected to the relocation of Rohingyas who took refuge in Bangladesh to Bangladesh as victims of state terrorism in Myanmar, they changed their mind after visiting Bhasanchar. As part of this, UNHCR has joined hands with the Government of Bangladesh to increase humanitarian assistance for the Rohingyas in Bhasanchar.
