On
Thursday night, Members of India's Border Security Force (BSF) trespassed into
Bangladeshi territory, vandalized a house, and allegedly verbally and physically
assaulted the residents.
The
event occurred about 10:00 pm in the Nakharganj border area of Kurigram's
Fulbari union.
The
BSF members then fled Bangladesh territory after the people banded together and
came forward.
Locals
claimed that at 9:30 pm on that day, a group of smugglers were ferrying
narcotics near the international pillar no. 941/9. Patrolling personnel of BSF
unit 192 from Seuti-2 Sabri camp pursued them at the moment. The BSF members
pursued the smugglers into Bangladesh's Nakharganj and into the home of a
certain Rafiqul Islam in the village.
Locals
also claimed that the BSF personnel yelled at them to open the door and got
into a confrontation with the house's residents. When Rafiqul refused to open
the door, BSF members broke into the house and attacked and verbally harassed
Rafiqul's wife Mojiron, son Ziaur Rahman, and daughter-in-law Iti.
The
Lalmonirhat 15 BGB has jurisdiction over the border area. "The BSF members
entered Bangladesh by accident," the battalion's commander, Lt. Col. SM
Touhidul Alam, told the media. On Friday about 10:00 am, a flag meeting was
conducted in the vicinity as we vehemently condemned the occurrence. During the
meeting, they admitted to making a mistake and stated that such behavior will
not be repeated. The situation in the area is currently under control."
