The court has framed charges against four people, including former RAJUK chairman Humayun Khadem, in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission-ACC alleging forgery of the design of the FR tower in the capital's Banani. With this, the trial of the case officially started.
On Monday (October 18), Dhaka Divisional Special Judge Syed
Kamal Hossain's court rejected the accused's plea for acquittal and ordered the
formation of charges.
The case has been fixed for November 15.
The other accused in the case are SMHI Farooq, owner of FR
Tower, Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul, head of Rupayan Group and Mohammad Saidur
Rahman, former chief engineer of RAJUK.
On June 25, 2019, ACC Deputy Director Abu Bakar Siddique
filed a case at the Dhaka Integrated District Office-1 alleging that the FR
tower’s 18-storey building was constructed in violation of the Building
Construction Rules 1996.
After investigating the case, on October 29 of that year,
the same officer filed a chargesheet against the five. Earlier, on March 28,
2019, 27 people were killed in a fire at the FR Tower.
