Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Moha. Shafiqul Islam
is retiring on October 29. His retirement order has been issued amid rumors of
an extension.
An order in this regard has been issued by the Public Security Division
of the Home Ministry on Thursday (October 21). The order states that he will
retire from October 29.
It reads, Moha. Shafiqul Islam was retired on October 29 at the age
of 59 under the Public Service Act, 2018. In his favor, one-year retirement and
retirement leave (PRL) was granted from 30/10/2021 to 29/10/2022 with lamp-grant
amount equal to 18 months’ basic salary.
The order also states that he will be entitled to other benefits as
per rules and post-retirement leave.
Moha Shafiqul Islam, who took over as DMP Commissioner on September
6, 2019, is an officer of the eighth batch of BCS. He joined Bangladesh Police
on 20 December 1989 as ASP. His village home is in Alamdanga, Chuadanga. He
completed his post-graduation from Bangladesh Agricultural University. During
his career he has served as Superintendent of Police in Narayanganj,
Patuakhali, Sunamganj and Comilla districts.
There have been rumors of an extension of his tenure due to recent
attacks in different parts of the country. Eventually he is being sent to
retire on time.
According to Home Ministry sources, it will be known in the next
couple of days who will take charge as the new DMP commissioner.
