Ferry Capsize in Paturia: 2nd Day Rescue Operation Begins

On Thursday morning, Fire Service divers resumed rescue operations at Paturia Ghat in Manikganj, which was halted by the authority at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, reports media.

Three teams of Fire Service and Civil Defence started to search inside capsized ferry Amanat Shah at 9 am, said Md Shariful Islam, deputy director of Manikganj Fire Service.

Earlier, the Ministry of Shipping has formed a committee to investigate the reason behind the capsize of the ferry.

Additional secretary (development) of the ministry Sultan Abdul Hamid has been made convener of the committee and it was asked to submit its report within the next seven days.

The ferry Shah Amanat tilted and part of the ferry went into the water while it was anchoring at the pontoon of ghat number 5 at Paturia around 9:30 am on Wednesday.

As a result, some vehicles on the ferry also went into the river.

Deputy General Manager of BIWTC at Paturia Ghat Zillur Rahman said four covered vans and trucks were rescued so far from the tilted ferry till 6.00 pm.
