Boat Sinks in Buriganga, 2 Bodies Recovered, 2 Missing

A passenger boat sank in Dhaka's Buriganga after being hit by a cargo ship. The bodies of a woman and a child have been recovered in the incident while two more were missing, reports media.

Those went missing are Shital, 27 and Shafiqul, 7.

The accident took place in Fanghat area of ​​Buriganga river on Monday morning.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Naval Police Abdus Sobhan said a boat carrying 10 passengers was heading towards Keraniganj from the Fanghat area of ​​Buriganga around 10:15 am.

The boat sank when it was hit by a bulkhead. Although some managed to get up, two women and two children were missing.

Upon receiving the news, the divers of the fire service came and started searching into the river. They recovered bodies of a missing woman and a child at this afternoon.

Divers are searching for the two missing, sources said.

Naval police officer Abdus Sobhan said police had detained the cargo ship responsible for the accident.
