The
court has framed charges against the former joint secretary-general of Hefazat-e-Islam Maulana Mamunul Haque in a rape case while he was detained at
the resort.
The
charges were framed in the court of Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge and
Acting Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Anisur
Rahman around 12 noon on Wednesday (November 3).
Rakib
Uddin, state counsel for the Narayanganj Women and Children's Court, confirmed
the matter.
He
said Jannat Ara Jharna filed a rape case with Sonargaon police station on April
30. Mamunul Haque, who was arrested in the case, was produced in court today
and an application was made to frame charges against him. At the end of the
hearing, the judge granted the application and framed charges against him.
However,
the plaintiff Jharna Begum did not appear in court. Earlier, Mamunul was
produced in Narayanganj court from Kashimpur jail around 10 am.
On
April 3, Mamunul was blocked by locals, including a woman, in a room at the
Royal Resort in Sonargaon. When he was in an embarrassing situation at that
time, the local leaders and activists of Hefazat vandalized the resort and
rescued him. On the same day, Mamunul claimed Jharna as his second wife.
Mamunul
was later arrested on April 18. On April 30, Jharna filed a rape case against
him at Sonargaon police station.
