The
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs Thursday approved the import of 75 lakh tonnes
of fuel oil for 2022. Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division Shamsul
Arefin made the remarks to the media.
He
responded to the journalists' questions after coming from a meeting of the
committee chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
In
addition, BPC has been given permission to import 58 lakh tonnes of refined
fuel oil next year.
Normally,
the finance minister addresses the press and answers their questions, but he
was absent from the briefing on Thursday.
Earlier,
a cabinet committee on public procurement meeting chaired by the finance
minister also approved the import of 80,000 tonnes of high sulphur furnace oil
from Unipec Singapore Pte Ltd for November and December at a cost of Tk 365
crore on Thursday.
The
committee cleared the import of 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid for Bangladesh
Chemical Industries Corporation's TSP Complex in Chattogram (BCIC). The acid
would be supplied by Dhaka Agro-Industrial Complex for Tk 61 crore.
BCIC
was also given permission to import 30,000 tonnes of bulk urea from Saudi Basic
Industries Corporation for Tk 195 crore, as well as 30,000 tonnes of bagged
urea fertiliser from Qatar for Tk 198 crore.
Furthermore,
the buying committee approved Tk 274 crore in public works spending for the
development of the "FDC Complex" of the Bangladesh Film Development
Corporation. The building job was bestowed upon Biswas Trading &
Construction.
