Fares
on public transport have been increased in the face of demands from transport
owners in the wake of rising fuel prices. According to the rescheduled fare,
from now on, passengers in metropolitan buses will have to pay a minimum of Tk 10 and mini-buses Tk 8.
BRTA
chairman Nur Mohammad Majumder said the fare hike for long-distance public
transport has been finalized by Tk 1.80.
The
decision was finalized during a seven-hour meeting with BRTA chairman and transport
owners' association leaders on Sunday (November 7th) from 11am to 5pm.
The
BRTA chairman told reporters after the meeting.
He
said the decision to increase public transport fares was taken due to the rise
in fuel prices. However, CNG-powered buses will not be included in the new fare
list. CNG-powered buses will run on previous fares.
This
fare will be effective from Monday (November 8). The gadget will be ready on
Sunday night and will be released on Monday.
BRTA
chairman Nur Mohammad Majumder, transport owner Khandaker Enayetullah, Shyamoli
Paribahan owner Ramesh Ghosh, Sohag Paribahan owner Faruk Talukder and two
representatives of the Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) were present at
the meeting.
