Removing Oxygen Mask Leads to Patient’s Death: Ward Boy Arrested

In a drive, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested ward boy Dholu in connection with the death of a patient after Dholu allegedly cut off his oxygen mask as he did not get the desired tip from the patient's father.

Dholu was detained in Dhaka on Wednesday night (November 10).

On Thursday, RAB headquarters released a statement in this regard (November 11).

The elite force's Legal and Media Wing will brief in this regard today at the RAB Media Centre in the capital's Karwan Bazar.

Ward boy Dholu reportedly cut off the patient's oxygen mask about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday (November 9) night after not getting the desired tip from the patient having treatment at Bogura's Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital's (SZMCH) surgery ward. After the incident, the accused worker, Dholu, left the scene.

On his way home from work that evening, Bikash Chandra Karmakar, son of Bishu Chandra Karmakar of Saghata upazila in Gaibandha district, was injured in a motorcycle accident. Later, he was taken to the Saghata Upazila Hospital by residents. After getting primary treatment, he was transported to SZMCH.

He was sent to the surgery ward on the third floor with a bandage on his head and an oxygen mask on his face after his surgery at SZMCH.

Dholu sought a Tk 200 tip from the patient while pushing the stretcher. Bishu Chandra handed him Tk 150, but he became enraged and walked out of the ward, removing the oxygen mask. Bikash had been having breathing problems since the oxygen mask was removed. A doctor arrived later and pronounced him dead.
