Decision on Gazipur Mayor on Friday

The Bangladesh Awami League's (AL) central executive committee will decide if Gazipur City AL General Secretary and Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Jahangir Alam Sarkar is guilty of violating organizational discipline.

The meeting, which will take place at 4 p.m. at Ganobhaban in the city, will be presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, according to party General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

Jahangir Alam had previously been served with a show-cause notice signed by Obaidul Quader, which he had already answered to.

A four-minute video of Mayor Jahangir making disrespectful remarks about Bangabandhu and certain martyred independence warriors during a function went viral on social media on September 22.

According to the mayor, the electronically modified film was used as propaganda against him by conspirators and anti-election groups.

Meanwhile, in Gazipur, the local AL's anti-mayor section resumed their rallies, asking that he be punished for his words.
