Mohammad Sohel, a councilor of Cumilla City Corporation's 17th ward, was shot dead after entering his office in Pathriyapara. His assistant Haripada was also shot dead. Four others who were shot in the incident are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police confirmed that the murder took place at 4.30 pm on Monday (November 22).

Director of Comilla Medical College Hospital Mohammad Mohiuddin confirmed the deaths to the media.

Mohammad Sohel (52) was a member of the Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League and president of Ward 13 Awami League. He was also the panel mayor of Comilla City Corporation. His home is in the Sujanagar area of ​​the city. He was elected as a councilor in 2012 and 2016.

According to police, Councilor Mohammad Sohel was sitting at the councilor's office at Pathriyapara Three Star Enterprise in Cumilla at 4.30 pm. At that moment, a group of miscreants wearing black masks entered the office and shot at him. Two pistol bullets hit him in the head, two in the chest, and four in the abdomen, and other parts of the body. At least five others were also sustained bullet injuries. They were rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital. Sohel and his accomplice Haripada (35) died there. Others who were sustained bullets are being treated at the hospital.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people are protesting on Pathriyapara road after the incident. RAB and police are trying to disperse the angry crowd.

Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League general secretary Arfanul Haque Rifat said at least 10 bullets were fired at Sohel's body. I had a meeting with him on Saturday. Sohel was extremely popular in his area. We want a murder trial.
