Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges (Remuneration and Privileges) bill, 2021 was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq moved the bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhruy in the chair. 

The bill was placed in parliament on Saturday to raise the allowances of the chief justice and the judges of the Appellate Division and the High Court. 

The Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges (Remuneration and Privileges) Act, 2021 will replace the existing ordinance of 1978. 

Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges (Prizes and Privileges) Bill 2021 was proposed to enact a new law after annulling the existing ordinance in this connection. 

The bill proposes to fix the monthly salary of the chief justice of the Supreme Court at Taka 1.10 lakh while the Appellate Division judge at Tk 1.05 lakh and that of the High Court judge at Tk 95,000.

Besides, in the proposed bill, provision was kept with 50 percent house rent of one’s basic salary and to provide one month of recreation leave with one month salary in every 3 years, two festival allowances per year, 20 percent Bangla New Year (Boishakhi)’s allowance and other benefits.
