In the face of the movement, the bus owners have decided to implement 'half fare' for students in public transport. The decision will take effect from Wednesday (December 1).

However, in this case, the bus owners' association is also imposing conditions like the conditions given for the half fare on BRTC buses. And these conditions are almost the same.

Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary-general of the Road Transport Owners Association, said this at a press conference on Tuesday (November 30).

He said half fare can be paid on the bus only between 7 am and 8 pm. There will be no opportunity to pay ‘half’ fare on public holidays, weekly holidays, or other holidays of the educational institution.

He also said that in order to pay half of the fare, the students have to show the photo ID card provided by their respective educational institutions.

Enayet Ullah said the decision would only be effective for the Dhaka metro area, not outside Dhaka in any way. This announcement was made by Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association.

Earlier, there were several meetings between BRTA and transport owners and workers on introducing half or half bus fare for students.

At the press conference, the secretary general of the owners' association said, "We are not sitting on this issue." We have met time and time again. Yesterday I had a meeting with the leaders of 120 transport owners, five trade unions and federations in Dhaka. Half rent will be effective from December 1.

He also urged all transport owners and workers to implement the decision.

The issue of killing of a student named Mainuddin Durjoy in Rampura of the capital also came up in the press conference. He demanded punishment for Durjay's 'killers' subject to investigation.

Transport leaders including Osman Ali, General Secretary of Road Transport Workers Federation were present at the time.
