The
international community must make real efforts to address the underlying causes
of the Palestinian crisis and put a stop to Israeli aggression, said Ambassador
Rabab Fatima.
She
made the statement while speaking today at the United Nations General Assembly
plenary session on the question of Palestine, which was on the agenda.
"We
must ensure Israel's compliance with all international human rights and
humanitarian laws, and relevant UN resolutions, including resolution 2334
(2016)", she said.
Ambassador
Fatima reaffirmed Bangladesh's unflinching and unshakable support for the
people of Palestine's rightful cause for an independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian
state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, under a two-state solution based on
pre-1967 borders.
She
alluded to the deteriorating situation in occupied Palestinian land as a result
of Israeli occupation forces' demolitions and seizures of homes and structures,
as well as expulsions, forced displacement, and murder of Palestinians.
According
to Ambassador Fatima, these actions were in gross violation of UN resolutions
as well as international human rights and humanitarian law.
The
Bangladesh Ambassador said that the culture of impunity must end, and
perpetrators of atrocity crimes against Palestinian civilians in the Occupied
Palestinian Territory must face justice.
She
praised the ongoing independent international commission of inquiry into these
crimes, as well as the International Criminal Court's progress in this area.
She
praised UNRWA's efforts and stressed the importance of meeting Palestinians'
immediate humanitarian needs, including those relating to the Covid-19
recovery.
She
also encouraged the international community to boost UNRWA's funding.
The Permanent Representative of Bangladesh urged the international community to act to establish a just, durable, comprehensive, and peaceful solution to the Palestine dilemma by recognizing Palestine as an independent state with a proper role in the United Nations.
"The
Palestinian debate's continuing here is a glaring reminder of the international
community's failure to preserve the Palestinian people's inalienable
rights," she continued.
