Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque
said the government was exploring legal options to allow BNP chairperson
Khaleda Zia to go abroad for medical treatment.
The law minister was speaking at the inauguration of the
25th Judicial Administration Training Course for District and Sessions Judges
and Metropolitan Sessions Judges at the Judicial Administration Training
Institute (JATI) in the capital on Sunday (December 5).
He said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is considering
the issue of Khaleda Zia from a humanitarian point of view. Earlier, two
petitions were rejected for allowing Khaleda Zia to go abroad. Now we are
looking into whether there is any other legal option in this regard. The
decision should be taken after all the checks and balances so that the law is
not violated."
Earlier, the minister said, "The government has enacted
the Digital Security Act to curb cyber-crime, not to restrict freedom of
expression or freedom of the press."
The minister also said that eight cyber tribunals have been
set up in eight divisions of the country to try cyber-crime cases.
"District judges have to oversee the work of the cyber
tribunal," he said.
The meeting was chaired by JATI Director General Justice
Nazmun Ara Sultana and was also addressed by Law Secretary Mohammad Golam
Sarwar.
