Members of Customs officials seized 86 gold bars weighing
about 9.97 kilograms (Kgs) from Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Shah Amanat
International Airport in the city today.
Airport Manager Wing Commander Forhad Hossain Khan said,
acting on a tip-off, a team of the Customs Intelligence and National Security
Intelligence (NSI) conducted a joint drive at a Biman Bangladesh Airlines
flight which came from Dubai this morning.
The gold bars were hidden on board the flight that landed at
the airport around 8.30 am, he added.
"Customs Intelligence members recovered the bars from
beneath the seat while conducting the raid in association with the NSI
members," said the manager of Shah Amanat International Airport.
The gold weighing about 9.97 kgs and had a market value of
nearly Taka 65 million, he said, adding: "Legal action will be taken to
arrest the persons who are involved with gold smuggling."
