A court has granted two-day remand to Iftekhar Abedin in connection with the death of Ilma Chowdhury Meghla, a dance department student of Dhaka University.

Police produced him in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Sunday (December 19th). After that, the police requested to remand him again for five days for proper investigation of the murder case made at Banani police station. Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arafatul Rakib granted him a two-day remand.

Sub-inspector Alamgir Hossain, an official of the general registration branch of the concerned police station, confirmed the information to the media.

Earlier, on Wednesday (December 15), police requested a seven-day remand for a proper investigation into a case filed against Iftekhar Abedin at the Banani police station. Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam granted him a three-day remand.

Ilma died on December 14 (Tuesday) at around 4 pm at her husband's house in Banani. Classmates said there were many signs of injuries on her body. However, Ilma's husband and in-laws claim that Ilma has committed suicide.

According to Ilma's family sources, Ilma was first taken to a private hospital in Gulshan. The doctor on duty there declared her dead. Her body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.

Ilma's father Saiful Islam Chowdhury filed a murder case with Banani Police Station on Tuesday night. Ilma's husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law were accused in the case.
