A court has
granted two-day remand to Iftekhar Abedin in connection with the death of Ilma
Chowdhury Meghla, a dance department student of Dhaka University.
Police produced
him in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Sunday (December 19th).
After that, the police requested to remand him again for five days for proper
investigation of the murder case made at Banani police station. Following the
hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arafatul Rakib granted him a two-day
remand.
Sub-inspector
Alamgir Hossain, an official of the general registration branch of the
concerned police station, confirmed the information to the media.
Earlier, on
Wednesday (December 15), police requested a seven-day remand for a proper
investigation into a case filed against Iftekhar Abedin at the Banani police
station. Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam granted
him a three-day remand.
Ilma died on
December 14 (Tuesday) at around 4 pm at her husband's house in Banani.
Classmates said there were many signs of injuries on her body. However, Ilma's
husband and in-laws claim that Ilma has committed suicide.
According to
Ilma's family sources, Ilma was first taken to a private hospital in Gulshan.
The doctor on duty there declared her dead. Her body was sent to Dhaka Medical
College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.
Ilma's father
Saiful Islam Chowdhury filed a murder case with Banani Police Station on Tuesday
night. Ilma's husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law were accused in the
case.
