Law
Minister Anisul Haque has said that a decision will be given soon on BNP
chairperson Khaleda Zia's request to go abroad for medical treatment. "We
have to make decisions within the law," he said. The government cannot take
any illegal action.
He
was responding to a question from reporters after the winners of the essay
competition titled "Liberation War, Freedom and Human Values"
organized by the National Human Rights Commission at a hotel in the capital on
Tuesday (December 21st).
Anisul
Haque said, "15 BNP-backed lawyers came from the Supreme Court. We have
examined whether there is any legal support in their statements. But did not
get any support. The court did not support any of their statements. On the
contrary, I have said in Parliament that the statement I have given is
supported by many judgments. However, the law ministry will give its opinion
soon."
Regarding
the letter sent by the UK regarding Khaleda Zia's treatment, the law minister
said, "The letter that was sent from the UK was incorrect. When the
British High Commissioner met with me about that misinformation, I made it
clear."
"We
have clearly explained our law to the high commissioner and explained to them
that Khaleda Zia is free and her legal position," he said.
Regarding
the dialogue of the political parties with the President on the formation of
the EC, the Law Minister said, "The Election Commission will be formed by
the decision of the President."
