A housewife has been gang-raped in Cox's Bazar. Three youths raped her in front of her husband and child and threatened to kill them. She was later rescued by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

The housewife was rescued from a hotel named Zia Guest Inn in Cox's Bazar Hotel-Motel Zone around 2pm on Wednesday (December 22).

The matter has been confirmed by Major Mehedi Hasan, CPC Commander of Cox's Bazar RAB-15.

The woman said she came to visit Cox's Bazar from Jatrabari in Dhaka on Wednesday morning with her husband and child. They stayed at a hotel in the city's Holiday corner. In the afternoon, they went to Labani Point on the beach. When her husband collided with a stranger there, they started arguing. As a result, a few people picked up her eight-month-old child and her husband in a CNG autorickshaw from the front of the tourist golf course in the evening.

At that time, three young men picked her up in another autorickshaw. Three men raped her in the back of a shack tea shop behind a tourist golf course. She was then taken to a hotel called Zia Guest Inn. The three youths raped her another time after consuming yaba there. They closed the room and left the scene saying that the child and her husband would be killed if the incident was reported to anyone.

The woman further said that she opened the door of the help room of a young man through the window on the third floor of Zia Guest Inn. The young man firstly called 999. The police advised him to register a general diary at the police station. Then she called RAB with the help of a person next to him. They came and rescued her. Her husband and children were rescued from the front of the tourist golf course.

Major Mehedi Hasan, CPC Commander of Cox's Bazar RAB-15, said, "we rescued my husband, child and housewife after receiving the news." RAB have started the shadow investigation. So far we have identified two of the three. An operation is underway to catch them.

Cox's Bazar RAB-15's Lt. Colonel Khairul Islam Sarkar said those involved in the incident should be severely punished. The matter is under further investigation. The case is also under process.
