Law Minister Anisul Haq has said that Khaleda Zia's sentence has been suspended and she has been released conditionally. She will take treatment at home, he will not be able to go abroad.

He made the remarks in response to a question from reporters at the OCAB Talks organized by Overseas Correspondents Association Bangladesh (OCAB) at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club in the capital on Thursday (December 30).

Anisul Haq said the government cannot do anything outside the law. Khaleda Zia's relatives filed a petition. There is no section. They did not meet the Home Minister and the Prime Minister then. Section 401 of the Criminal Code provides that her sentence may be suspended and she may be released. Now what is in section 401 is conditional or unconditional.

Referring to the petition, the law minister said that considering the petition they had filed, the government had stayed her sentence in the executive order and released her conditionally. She will receive treatment at home, but will not be able to go abroad.

President of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Nazrul Islam Mithu and many others were present on the program.
