No Lockdown Right Now

Health Minister Zahid Maleque said the lockdown situation had not yet occurred, adding that they had not made any recommendations.

The minister made the remarks after an inter-ministerial meeting on the issue of Omicron, a new type of coronavirus, in the conference room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat on Monday (January 3) evening.

The minister said that the meeting was held to avoid going to the lockdown stage. We take whatever steps we can. Then let's see what happens.

He said that one cannot eat in a restaurant without vaccination. A notification in this regard will be issued within the next 15 days.

The meeting also discussed the issue of transporting fewer passengers than the allotted seats for public transport.

Earlier, the meeting started at 6:20 pm. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was present in the meeting as the chief guest. Health Secretary Zahid Maleque was present as the special guest under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam. 

Mustafa Kamal Uddin, Senior Secretary, Department of Public Safety, Mohammad Lokman Hossain Mia, Secretary, Department of Health Services, Mohammad Mokammel Hossain, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Prof Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Director General (DG), Department of Health Maqbool Hossain, Chief Information Officer (Additional Responsibilities) of the Information Department Md. Shahenur Mia were also present at the meeting.
