More than half a crore Bangladeshis work in Middle East countries. In these countries, the state flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines and a number of domestic and foreign airlines operate flights. Recently, passengers have complained that they have to buy tickets at a double or triple price than the normal time. And the expatriates think that this is having an effect on remittances. However, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced a reduction in airfares for five routes in the Middle East to mark its 50th anniversary.

According to a notification issued by Biman on Tuesday (January 4), the new fare will be effective from January 16.

The statement said, "Biman Bangladesh Airlines has decided to reduce the airfares for expatriates going to the Middle East." The reduced fares will apply to new ticket purchases subject to vacancies on the Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi routes in the Middle East.

The one-way maximum fare for each Economy Class ticket on the Dhaka-Jeddah route has been reduced from Tk 72,455 to Tk 64,820.
