Dhanmondi
police have seized two guns licensed by the former state minister for information
and broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan and a gun licensed by his wife in connection
with the incident of torture and death threats against his wife.
Dhanmondi
Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ikram Ali Mia confirmed the information on Sunday
(January 9th).
He
said that since Dr. Murad's wife had filed a GD against him alleging torture
and death threats, steps were being taken to ensure her safety. As part of
this, I asked them to submit the guns licensed in the name of Dr. Murad to the
police station. He came yesterday (Saturday) and handed over two weapons as per
the instructions of the police. Dr. Murad's wife also submitted her licensed gun.
The couple submitted three guns, including a pistol and two shotguns.
"Since
the security issue is mentioned in the GD, we have deposited the weapons,"
he said. Their weapons will remain in the police station until the matter is
settled.
Last
Thursday (January 7), when Dr. Murad went to abuse and beat his wife and
children, his wife Dr. Jahanara Ehsan called 999 and asked for help. After
receiving the complaint, Dhanmondi police went to their house and Murad left
the house. Later, his wife filed a general diary (GD) with the Dhanmondi police
station alleging torture against Dr. Murad.
It
is mentioned that Murad Hasan resigned from the post of Minister of State for
Information on the instructions of the Prime Minister after the leaked remarks
about BNP leader Tarique Rahman's daughter Jaima Rahman and threatening to rape the actress Mahiya Mahi on the phone. He was later expelled from the Awami League.
Despite leaving the country in the face of controversy, Murad returned to the
country after failing to enter Canada. He has been in hiding since then.
