Two more zebras have fallen ill
after the death of nine zebras in 22 days at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari
Park in Sreepur, Gazipur.
In this situation, the medical
board meeting was held again on Saturday (January 29) at noon to treat the sick
zebras, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change said.
The meeting is being held at the
safari park today and the forest department authorities will take all necessary
steps as per the advice of the medical board.
A press release from the ministry
said that members of the medical board had earlier held an emergency meeting at
the safari park to discuss the emergency treatment of zebras and the causes of
such illnesses. The authorities are taking all necessary steps as advised by
this board.

Director of Central Veterinary
Hospital Dr. Shafiul Ahad Sardar (Swapan) and Chief Scientific Officer of
Central Disease Research Laboratory Dr. Golam Azam Chowdhury (Tulu) were
present at the meeting as experts.
Of the 31 zebras in the safari
park in Sreepur, nine died this month. The Special Medical Board, an expert
formed in the incident, said that four and five others died of zebra infectious
diseases.
However, the ministry has formed
a five-member inquiry committee to find out the real cause and fix the action.
