An illegal arms factory has been found in a remote hilly area of Pekua upazila in Cox's Bazar. The arms made in the factory were supplied to local terrorists and pirates, RAB said.
The
RAB's 48-hour operation continued till late night on Wednesday (February 2) in
the deep hilly areas bordering Pekua in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar.
Hamid,
the main culprit, fled after learning of the raid on the hill, but several
firearms-making types of equipment were recovered. During this time, three arms makers
were arrested.
Confirming
the matter, RAB-7 Commander Lt. Col. MA Yusuf said that after the capture of Kabir,
the top pirate of the coast, it was learned from him that there was an arms
factory led by robber Abdul Hamid in Jhumpara, a hilly area of Taitong. Where weapons are made and sold. The
weapons made in this factory are sold to terrorists in different parts of the
country including Chattogram and Dhaka.
"We
recovered eight arms from Hamid's main residence on Tuesday night," he
said. Six of them are brand new. Perhaps they intended to sell it.
The
RAB further said that Hamid and his associates used to supply arms to various
pirates and terrorist groups including the recently arrested Kabir Bahini. The
arms were also used in political violence.
Abdul
Jalil, a member of the local Taitung Union Parishad, said that everyone was
terrified of the oppression of the arms dealers here. So they demanded the
arrest of all the members of this force including the main leader.
