Cabinet Secretary Khandaker
Anwarul Islam said the search committee would hold a formal meeting from
Wednesday (February 16) to shorten the long list of 322 names. They will work
on how to shorten the list.
The secretary made the remarks
after a search committee meeting with four senior journalists at the Supreme
Court's Judges' Lounge on Tuesday (February 15th).
Among those invited to the
meeting were former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ)
Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Channel I Head of News Shykh Siraj, The Business
Standard Editor Inam Ahmed, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam.
Later, in response to a question
from reporters, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said that senior
journalists who could not be accommodated for the last two days, were called today. Four of them were present. They have given their opinion,
these are being considered by the committee. And on behalf of the committee, I
am editing the names. It will be presented before the committee tomorrow. The
committee will then proceed with a selection process from here to fix their
modus operandi.
Asked if the names were published
with the consent of the people, the secretary said those who submitted it could
say that the matter has now come to the committee. The committee will consider
whether it has done so with consent.
Asked when the names of 10 people
would be finalized, he said the committee would do it as soon as possible.
