Honey extraction from the Sundarbans will start on March 15. In other years, honey and beeswax were collected in the Sundarbans from April 1. But some beekeepers entered the forest illegally without a pass-permit and started extracting honey. So this time honey extraction has been already started.

This information was given by Dr. Abu Naser Mohsin Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarbans West Forest Department.

He further said that their research has shown that honey has been found in forest bees since March 15. That is why this decision has been taken.

Golpata collection season has also started in the Sundarbans. Nirmal Kumar Mandal of the Khulna Range (Golpata Koop Officer) of the Sundarbans West Forest Department said that in the first phase of the season, Bawalis are busy cutting Nipa Palm Leaves. The permit was issued on January 30 and the collection of Nipa Palm Leaves will continue till March 30.

He said the target was to issue a permit to cut 74,705 ​​ Mun golpata in the first phase in a well in the Khulna range of the western part of the Sundarbans. In the first phase, the Bawalis have taken permission to collect 56,060 maunds of golpata.

Mihir Kumar Do, forest conservator of Khulna Circle, said that last year, 4,46,315 kg of honey and 1,33,905 kg of bees were extracted from the Sundarbans by beekeepers. This amount is expected to increase further this year.
