10 Bangladeshis have been trapped in two Ukrainian cities, Mariupol and Sumy amid Russia's ongoing military operation.

Bangladesh's Ambassador to Poland Sultana Laila Hossain made the statement at noon on Saturday (March 5).

She said two people were trapped in the country's Mariupol and eight in the town of Sumy. The situation there is very difficult. However, we are trying our best to give safe passage to these 10 Bangladeshis.

Sumy is a town near the Russian border in northeastern Ukraine. The town of Kharkiv, next to the town, was heavily shelled by Russian forces.

The city of Mariupol, on the other hand, is located in the southeast near the Russian border. Russia has already taken control there. A ceasefire was declared in the city on Saturday to allow civilians to evacuate.

Although there are thousands of Bangladeshis in Ukraine, they are in trouble after the start of the war as there is no Bangladeshi embassy there. The embassy of the neighboring country Poland is taking care of the Bangladeshis for their safety.
