Acknowledging that the rise in
oil prices in the country is due to rising oil prices in the international
market, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that due to effective measures taken
by the ministry, prices of edible oil and other essential commodities have
remained stable and within the reach of common people.
He made the remarks in response
to a question from M Abdul Latif in Parliament on Tuesday (March 29). Speaker

Replying to a question by Awami
League MP M Abdul Latif, Tipu Munshi said meetings have already been held with
traders to keep prices under control. There have been discussions and reviews
on the international market situation of essential commodities, assessment of
demand, stock situation, etc.
He also said that the 'Commodity
Price Review and Forecast Cell' is monitoring it. The Department of Consumer
Protection is conducting monitoring and mobile courts. 28 monitoring teams of
the Ministry of Commerce are monitoring the market price situation. On behalf
of TCB, Truck-sell is running at a fair price through three thousand dealers all
over the country including Dhaka.
He further said that among the
one crore low-income people across the country, daily commodities are being
sold at fair prices from March 20 to March 31 before the start of Ramadan. In
the second phase, TCB will again sell daily necessities from April 3. At
present OMS food grains are being sold in 2,013 centers.
