Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has said that the Padma
Bridge will be launched in June instead of December. A meeting of the Cabinet
Committee on Public Purchase and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs was
held under the chairmanship of the Finance Minister on Thursday (April 7).
Responding to a question from reporters about the delay in
the launch of the Padma Bridge, the finance minister said, "The prime
minister has said it will be done by the end of this year. We expect to be able
to launch it by the end of this year (Fiscal Year), this is our expectation.
Our fiscal year will end in June. We believe we can finish the work in
the meantime."
Earlier, during the question and answer session in
Parliament yesterday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "The Padma Bridge
will be commissioned by the end of this year."
Later, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam went on to
explain, "One of the logics of what the Prime Minister has said is that
the recent arrival of some goods for the Padma Bridge is a problem for the
Ukraine war." The goods were supposed to arrive in March. But now there is
some uncertainty. For this, I think December has been mentioned. We have time
till December 2022."
