3 Killed in Lightning in Habiganj

Three people, including two students, were killed in a lightning strike at Baniachang in Habiganj. Two more people were injured in the incident. These incidents took place at different places in the upazila on Thursday (April 14) at 9 am.

The deceased have been identified as Alamgir Mia, 26, son of Shamsul Mia of Eralia village under Khagaura union of Baniachang upazila, Hussain Mia, 12, son of Akkal Ali of Katari mahalla of the same upazila and Ruma Akter, 13, daughter of Abdur Rahman of Jatukarnapara mahalla.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Baniachang Police Station Mohammad Emran Hossain confirmed the matter.

According to locals, Ruma is a sixth-grader. She was drying wood in the field next to the house around 7 am in the morning. The girl died on the spot when lightning struck with rain.

In the morning, Hossain Ahmed and Alamgir Mia were doing agricultural work in their area. When two people were injured by lightning at different places, the locals took them to the Upazila Health Complex. At that time, the doctor on duty declared them dead.
